Is there a way to use a bed from a later model short bed on my 46'? I see that the later ones are wider. That would suggest that the fenders would not match up with the running boards. Of course the tail gate would need to be tossed as would the head board. As well as the cross rails. Has anyone done this ? Is it even worth the trouble? Mar K does make a pretty nice kit.

I owned my first antique truck (1942 Chevy half ton) for two months before I realized that the bed was a later '53 version, with the side mount spare tire. I was really new to the hobby and had no idea when I bought it. To mount the bed they had to cut the nice running boards about one inch shorter at the rear. The bed has the 53 fenders; I don't think your original fenders will fit at all.

I bought a Mar K bed for my '37 project as the original was just too beat up and it is very impressive. I would highly recommend you go that route.

Thanks. I think you are right about Mar K. I'll probably go that route. But I also wonder about making a half ton short stake bed. I've never seen it done I don't think.

The stake beds are handy.....try it and let us know how it works!

.... I second the Mar-K suggestion and I'll throw in another idea. I have seen later model beds with the flare fenders from rangers or S-10's that were tastefully done and looked good but have not seen one on a 46 Art Deco style.

My plan is put an 8' bed on my 41 3/4 ton, from a '66 Jeep. I've measured it several times and know I will need to make several modifications, including adapting the mounting brackets/braces. I'm also putting dual wheels on the rear axle, so I will need extend the rear fenders out to accommodate that, as well as modifying the running boards.

All that is to say, you can do almost anything. "Is it even worth the trouble?" you ask? - - - - I'll let you know when I get it done.
