Hello Folks My 55 One ton has a perfect body (except for about a half a dozen small rust spots). Fairly heavy pitting but no where near
rust through. My question, has anyone had occasion to use any of the following products.
1 Step Rust Killer, Rust Doctor, or Zero rust??
Several coats of one of these products would
probably fill my problem areas, Any input would be appreciated Thanks Bob

None of those products will fill your pits but they all work well in containing rust. My preference is the Zero Rust. Easy to use and less expensive.

Are you painting it or just trying to prevent it from spreading?

I am a Zero Rust fan myself. I never had heard of it until I started reading all the post from these old truck experts here. I think I have been getting it for like 50$ a gallon and it if holds up as good as some folks say, i will feel it will be well worth it. I was thinking of creating some sort of spray bomb so I could coat the inside of my doors and places I can't spray this stuff with my paint gun. I may try some in a garden sprayer, no kidding, to reach down into the door of my truck. I am sure you know, or have heard this, but always wear a mask to protect you lungs and stuff. Something to protect you eyes too.

I personally have never used zero rust. I have POR15 and I love that stuff. I just (finally) coated my panel chassis and once again I am amazed at how good POR15 looks and how tough it is. (I blasted the chassis before coating)

So, for someone who has used BOTH zero rust and POR15....what do you see as the deciding factor of one over the other???

POR is probably more durable in the long run and if you spend time lying on your back marvelling at the beauty of the bottom of your rig then it may be worth it.

ZR is available in rattle can, qts and gallons in various colors and will not kill you if you breathe it in as POR will. ZR is also less expensive, easier to apply, easier to get off your skin and does the job it is intended for.

they have this stuff at the hardware store that has acid in it spray it on and it turns the rust into something black that can be scraped off and sanded it kills rust and turns it inurt its something like ocfoce its in the paint area its cheape for a big spray bottle i would use it then a rust treatment

POR has the acid based cleaner & degreaser system
apply by brush is safer than spray
i did my whole frame on our 51 and it looks great. i also did the inner fenders, lots of little brackets under the frame, linkages, under bed gas tank & more.

tooooo bad the painter did some overspray and screwed it up in spots
do gloss on the frame as it will dull (a bit) in years but still look great

NOTE: por does NOT like sunlight so ALL areas must be hidden
so NO bumper arms, {running board tops & front apron skirt tops, (i did the bottoms)} .

Has anyone used Rust Encapsulator from Eastwood. I have been using it on areas where I weld or grind and it seems to work OK. I top it off with Rustolem gloss black.

Where do you find Zero Rust?
