Thanks for a wonderful site! I just recently bought a 41 Chevy AK and was researching for parts when I came upon this site.
About six years ago, while out doing some utility mapping, I spotted the rear side of this truck in a loafing type shed not knowing who the owner was. Come to find out it was a member of the company I work for board of directors, so in passing I asked him what was it? He told me the story about how he came about it and used it for campaigning purposes back in the 80's (he is a former state senator). He said that he ought to just sell it. I asked how much, he said make me an offer. After bantering back and forth a bit, he left and so I looked up what a 41 Chevrolet Pickup looked like in the front... and fell in love. After a couple of meetings of trying to get a price from him and telling him that I wont put a price on someone else's property, my wife and I went out and gave the old truck a going over. She fell in love with it too. So after much discussion on how much we could afford, I made an offer that wouldn't offend the owner and we made a deal.
The truck is bone stock and in pretty darn good shape! Oh there is a little rust here and there but overall, it's in good shape. Since I got it, I have gone through the brakes, replaced the battery box, and now working on getting the gas tank cleaned and sealed. Then all I need (hopefully) is a battery, and some tires and it should be road worthy.
