Need some clarification on the cross sills. Here's what I know: there are 4 cross sills; 3 are similar one is different (that's the one at the tailgate). Now my question: of the remaining 3, two of them have sliding 'player's at the bottom ,one does not. Should all three have the plates or only two? If only two does the one without the plates to at the cab and if the bed. As always thanks for your help.

This may help for a 3100. The sill closest to the cab has holes along the side that bolt it to the front panel, it has the plates. Next two sills are the same, they have the plates (see correct response in next post). Next is the rear and it is an assembly without the plates as it has welded brackets that save the same purpose. Look closely at these pictures hopefully that will clarify it for you.

The cross sill just rearward of the front one does not require the plates since the bottom of it does not contact anything. It is a floater.
New cross sills all probably come with the plates, but I don't believe that the original floater cross sill came with them.
Having stated that, far be it from me to steer you away from Brad Allen's opinion. He is a great source for hard to find details (and I may need to buy some hard to find parts from him and I do not want to jeopardize that ).
