I recently purchased a '56 3100 stepside and have been slowly but surely restoring it. Mechanically it's ready, but I'm on to body work now. The truck is really clean and is nearly rust free (2-owner, Utah truck), but like any old truck there are some interesting quarks to it. At some point, some thick 1/4" steel was welded on top of inside of the bedsides. The steel is exactly where the the fender bolts are, so I'm assuming there was a issue at some point and it was used to reinforce the bedside. Anyhow, it doesn't look good so I want to replace them. There's also a patch gone from in the front-driver side panel.
My question: is there any one vendor who sells bedsides and panels that are particularly better than another? It seems like LMC, Raybuck, Brothers, Restoration Parts, etc all sell them. Maybe they're the same, but it's hard to tell. I'd like to keep this thing as factory looking as possible.
