Wondering if there are any tips or tricks to removing the old black heat/sound shield stuff off the inside of the roof and firewall (the stuff under the headliner and behind the firewall pad)? Not quite there yet as I have a few more things first but plotting my attack!

Short of sand blasting, I would say heat gun and stiff putty knife.🛠

If you decide to use heat or media blasting it would best to take precautions with the fumes/dust. No telling what kind of chemicals were used to make that adhesive.

I had mine sandblasted off. That was 10 years ago and I still see traces of sand falling down from time to time.

I am going to have mine blasted too. I thought I should scrape/remove what I could first for best results. I will post a pic of the stuff when I get home tonight.

You can leave the stuff on the firewall. No rust should be under it, and no one will ever see it when the truck is done. I battled with removing that stuff on my '52, and the metal under it was perfect. I won't bother ever doing that again.

Heat gun to soften the adhesive, putty knife to scrape the biggest section, wire wheel in a die grinder to whiz off the remainder, lacquer thinner to remove the final residue.

...not sure about you folks, and I know there is some good stuff out there, but I really like the old stuff we are peeling and scrapping off. I like it and wish I could find some just like it.

Keep up the good work, Jason.

Not to be rude..... But why do you want to get rid of it?
Mine on the roof portion was bad... Wish would have looked like yours.
Just asking.

Rust areas on the floor/firewall around it and for the roof, I had some mice/rats/squirrels nesting up there above the headliner so it is chewed up and has a smell to it as well.
