I bought a 1950 parts truck and decided to bring it back from the dead.
I thought it had a 1950 216 but it turns out to be 1953 truck or manual tranny car motor. Kind of a one off engine w/ 54 and later head but the 2 nut valve cover rather than the 4 bolts on the side
Pulled valve cover and side cover (like 54 235 not like 216) , it was used but not to funky;
Next came the head, no rust and a ridge that could probably honed out...
I am not going to rebuild this one as I have 2 power glide 235s.
Should it go to scrap yard or should I shove it in the corner?
How many of you guys have spare engines sitting around? | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,889 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,889 | That's a fairly scarce engine, worth something to someone who is doing a correct-engine truck restoration. I's keep it and maybe run an ad on Craigslist- - - -no telling what kind of pocket change it might bring from the right buyer. Jerry

I agree with Jerry though on keeping the engine. Yes it is a babbit engine that not too many folks are overly concerned with these days, but it sounds like it is a complete operable engine. Getting rarer every day. If you have the space, I would advise to keep the engine as perhaps someone in the future may need some scarce parts. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 Crusing in the Passing Lane | | Crusing in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 | I will have to admit to having a few 'spare' 302's, Detroits, 503's, 5 and 6 speed trans', 22.5 wheels around, one can never tell if I or others may need something. Once the scrap man gets them, all is lost.

I guess it is a good thing that I am taking things apart properly so I know which hole the lifters and push rods go back into (although I would guess they would all be replaced). I probably clean it up, oil it up and shove it back into a corner, | | |
