For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jun 2018 Posts: 93 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2018 Posts: 93 | Hi everyone, Newbie here that has been stalking the site for quite sometime now as a great learning resource. You guys are great and help a ton of people who aren't even members/posters here. Please bare with me as I am new here and learning the ropes. Any tips, tricks, suggestions are greatly appreciated. I am an avid DIY'er and helped other friends and family restore their cars but never my own. As a first timer, I am working on "restoring" a 1950 3100. My goal is for it to eventually look at least period correct if not stock. If there are any shows, swap meets, etc. in my area I would LOVE to know about them to see what others have done are doing!

Welcome wilsjay. Between the bunch of us, there is a lot of knowledge here, that's for sure. We have regional groups here, just find your region and check it out for swap meets or shows. You can also check out the gallery (maybe you did already) and get some ideas there. Does your truck need a lot of work or is it roadworthy? Half your battle is over! Welcome to Stovebolt, the AD style pickup were made in the millions so parts, and reman parts, are available. Tons and tons of info here just be sure to ask questions in the most appropriate garage forum. (not here in the welcome centre) Take time to read tech tips, links for vendors and go over the FAQ (frequently asked questions) an as Leo suggested check out the gallery. We all agree that its your truck so do what you will with it but we do hate to see good original trucks chopped up when there are plenty of rust bucket junk yards vehicles available for that.......but whatever you do, we respect your wishes and will help you along the way. (I have "resto-mods" in my shop. Junk I resurrected but keep looking original) Good luck, See you around the garage and be sure to look for other members, as they post, that are in your area, your state and maybe next door to you. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2018 Posts: 93 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2018 Posts: 93 | Thanks. It has literally been in a barn for 25-30 years. It has sat so long the 216 engine is locked/rusted up tight. I originally wanted to get it going but after reading I think I may be better served moving to the 235 that has an oil pump. So I am swapping it to a 235 out of a 56 Bel Air. So far most of the stuff it needs appears to be bolt on pieces that look pretty straight forward (beginners confidence :) ) My biggest issue I think is the front cab corners/floor board area is rusted out so getting that repaired I think is going to be my biggest challenge.

Youre lucky to have that, especially in that area of the country. My son lived in the UC area (Clifton) '97-'01 . Now im hooked on the Skyline Chili. Keep up the good work on the truck, And don't forget to ask all the questions you need. Also check out the Gallery for ideas.
Happy Truckin,

Agreed, that looks like a sweetheart of a truck to start with!! | | | | | Joined: Jun 2018 Posts: 93 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2018 Posts: 93 | Thanks! Man now that I have it apart somewhat I feel I have grossly misrepresented it with that previous pic! The front cab corners are SHOT where the inner/outer cowl and floor/firewall all meet and the front fenders mount. The farmer that previously had it brazed the fenders to the cowl with what looks like brass and patched the kick panels with what looks like street/advertising signs. Figuring out how to get all this repaired is going to be quite the challenge for me!

The drivers side was shot and ended up putting the inner, the inner to outer, and the outer cowl piece on mine. Luckily the patch panels are available but some of them may have to be beat into submission!! | | | | | Joined: Jun 2018 Posts: 93 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2018 Posts: 93 | Jason check out my google pics of my panel. Luckily the patch panels are available but some of them may have to be beat into submission!! Man I been through your pics on that truck 50x I bet! (I actually sent you a PM earlier on that pumpkin swap.) I have ordered all those panels and new front cab mounts (not sure if the front cab mounts are the same on the panel truck). All the other panels look the exact same. I got mine from classicparts.com I have only welded a tiny bit on stuff like lawn mower parts, etc. Not gonna lie this part of the job has me a bit intimidated. I have been reading tutorials, looking at photo galleries and watching videos for a few months now. I wish you lived closer I would be begging you for some lessons! Your trucks look great!
