on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2017 Posts: 23 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2017 Posts: 23 | Does anyone know how the throttle return spring clip connects to the engine rail. Do they just snap on and stay or do they have an oil pan bolt go through them. Here is a link http://www.pbase.com/dennygraham/image/139631246 - I'm talking about the where the bottom of the spring connects to the block. Also where might I find one of these critters? Thanks. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2017 Posts: 23 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2017 Posts: 23 | 1950 216. That may work. Does an oil pan bolt go through it for hookup? | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | I just made a clip for my 50 coupe Saturday. Yes, a pan bolt goes through it.
Note: someone will have to verify this..................the throttle spring I used was TWO springs wound together. I suspect that is a safety thing but I do not know if they were double when original. I just happen to have one from a ????? car I worked on one time. Ace Hardware is a good place to "rummage" through their supply until you find what you want....and cheap with no shipping. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 | Alvin,
Quite often, after an original spring got loose, and stretched, and abused, and maybe replaced by whatever spring was on-hand - one spring was often not enough. All sorts of solutions were employed.
I have a spring collection from 1960s-70s junk yards. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | Tim, I wish I had a picture handy. They are identical and one would over look it if you weren't careful. It was definitely made this way....but no documentation of what it may have been made for. I liked it so it is now on the coupe.
.....yes, like you, I have seen some almost un-believable set ups......which means I'm getting old...uh, older! hehe | | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 | I think the truck suppliers sell that clip. The clip is held on by a pan bolt. It has a small ridge in it to fit over the lip of the pan. It is tear drop shaped and the small end has a hole for the spring. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 | Photos of the clip are shown in the second post. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2017 Posts: 23 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2017 Posts: 23 | | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | Interesting that they had ........."free length....two Loop ends" and "free length....two Hook ends" and other configurations as well. Just shows that one size don't fit all as we all well know.
Thanks for the links Tim, you have taught us one thing for sure........ documentation is the key! | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 | Pictures of springs/locations would be nice, too . . .
