There should be a bolt on the king pin that rests against it when the wheel is turned completely on one direction. The bolt can be adjusted to regulate how sharp you can turn the wheel. Why do you want to grind it off? Jim | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 . | | . Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 | It’s not a steering stop, that is bolted on with the lock pin for kingpin. Likely result of the forging/manufacturing process. I don’t know that it has a purpose on the finished axle, but also no good reason to remove it. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2016 Posts: 631 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2016 Posts: 631 | It’s not a steering stop, that is bolted on with the lock pin for kingpin. , but also no good reason to remove it. The reason to remove it .............disk brake caliper hits this knob on full turn. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 | Can someone post a pic of the caliper hitting this part of the axle? There is no reason a caliper should be anywhere near the center of the axle! | | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 | interesting...,
second pic didn't work for me | | | | | Joined: Nov 2017 Posts: 41 Fixer of Things I Probably Broke | | Fixer of Things I Probably Broke Joined: Nov 2017 Posts: 41 | The other solution would be redrill the steering stop tab. If the new mounting hole was drilled at the stock locating pin making the effective length of the tab longer. Or just weld a dab on the end... it's looking like only a cm of clearance needed. Though both do sacrifice turning radius (albeit slightly). Wonder if that triangle knob was used as steering stop for other spindle configurations...
