The overdrive in my 58 started jumping out of high gear. It also has a singing sound at about 45 mph. I just took it out and put the original transmission back in.I Ordered an overhaul kit from southern gear. I hope it works for an overdrive. They only had a kit for a regular three speed.

Jumping out of 3rd gear is a common problem for regular 3 speeds and overdrive transmissions of that era.
External causes can be from worn u-joints, worn front yoke, out of balance driveshaft, and sloppy shift linkage.
Internal wear components consist of worn syncro rings/drum, 2/3 shift fork, collapsed spring ring on the clutch gear,
worn rear bushing, worn bearings, and worn teeth on clutch gear. The OH kit for a regular 3 speed should consist of front & rear bearings, rear seal, needle bearings & thrust washers, rear bushing, and gaskets.
It will not give you the rear bearing for the OD which is a number 6206. The OD gasket set is different, also you need the
solenoid seal 3060 and OD shifter shaft seal 6130.
Fred
Note: Parts such as syncro's are getting hard to find and priced to match. You may wish to use the good parts from the regular 3 speed in the OD trans.

Great answer Fred and good info. I have looked at a few 3sp trannys with the same issue and most had worn needle bearings in the clutch gear. Bad alignment of the clutch gear(input shaft) in the pilot bushing can cause the same.
