I removed two harmonic balancers from 235 with no problems. I have gone through one "puller" stripping it out. Heat ? Any secrets ?

** Yes center crank lugs. My puller kit has a smaller tip which went directly into the shaft but it stripped out the first kit. It's now on two days soak Deep creep Seafoam. .. I'll give it another go tomorrow (Saturday) and post results. Thanks for the input!
***I gave it extra days to soak will try today after work and update. I'm in no hurry. Thanks All.
***It's OFF now! I think the Deep creep soaked in with the slow turning with a tourqe wrench. To me it was a night and day difference between the 235 vs 216 . Thanks all!

Let is set for a day and keep hitting it with the penetrating oil. Get a harmonic balancer pulley from your local FLAPS and start pulling. Keep soaking the center until it breaks lose. When I pulled mine I broke one of the ears off and stripped the center bolt on the first puller. Had to purchase another one, but they are not to expensive. Second puller with the Deep Creep did the charm. When you go to re-install it, put a small amount of anti-seize on the crank shaft and inside the harmonic balancer so it won't seize on the crankshaft if you need to pull it again.

Does your balancer have hand crank lugs? If so make sure you're not pushing against the lugs instead of the crank end. A 9/16" socket fits in the center of the lugs & you can push against that.

| | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,787 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,787 | That's a pretty common problem with 216 balancers- - - -unless you're using a puller with a pretty small diameter jackscrew, the push force isn't getting to the crankshaft snout. Use a socket like Tiny suggests, or a piece of round stock that will fit through the center hole with a dimple drilled into it to center the puller cone. The puller is working against itself if the cone can't touch the end of the crank.
