We are working on his '54 3100 and this is what I got done this weekend. It is a lot of work fixing these fenders. As you can tell in the pictures, I made several small patches and tried to shape them as best as I could to the original contours. Not an easy task. It would be much easier if you could buy premade patch panels. Doesn't make much sense to me that cab corner patches, cowl patches, etc. are available but not lower fender patches. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 128 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 128 | Big bass,this may help next time yo run into rust,and a patch panel is not avalible.as long as you've got the basic structure of the shape,which in the fender you did.start buy cutting a piece of sheet metal large enough to cover all or more of the rusted area,now place your patch over the rusted area,leaving the rusted metal there for now!clamp or screw one end of the patch to the panel,in this case I would start at the bottom flange.you may want to put the first bend in it with a small sheet metal brake to get started,now take your torch and gently warm the metal as you form it over the old shape,using a body hammer and heat gently tap and massage the metal into it's shape,you may need to make a few relief cut's with the cut off wheel in the real curved area's,but they can be welded up later .after you've made your patch,cut the rust out and install the fabbed part  | | | | | Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 4,095 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 4,095 | my fenders are in relatively good shape but my bodyman wants me to buy new. he says by the time he puts time in i can buy new. ron

Ron- Your body man is probably right. Labor costs can be a killer, that is why I will tackle most any job myself as long as I know I can't cause any real damage.
SW- Not for hire at the moment but I would definitely give you a hand if we were closer together. I don't mind helping a fellow bolter if I can.
