Hi folks, Could some of you kind folks tell me what sort/type of headers/manifolds these are and point me in the direction of a good replacement that does't look so bad.
they are called Rams Horns and are pretty desirable for the guys putting V8s in place of I-6s in the early Stovebolts. Helps with steering box clearance.

Ram's horns create steering box problems- - - -they don't help with the conversion. The manifolds that offer steering box clearance benefits are the ones for 55-57 passenger car 265 engines with the driver's side exhaust pipe flange between the front pair of cylinders. They're on Ebay pretty regularly at bargain prices. Rams' horns offer better breathing at high RPM, but it's a moot point for street-driven engines unless you just love paying speeding tickets. Jerry

Stooby, if I understand it correctly your working on a 56 pickup. They were available with the early V8's (265) and I believe you have room to run a set of ram horns but I could be wrong.....there was a lot of room under their. My buddys and I stuffed a 427 into a 56 back in the 60's but I just don't remember the set up that well now.
I use the 1500° Flameproof paint I get at O'Rielly's. It has a ceramic component to it and performs well at regular exhaust temps. I forget who makes it. I'll double check when I get back home tonight.
