Apples or Oranges! Since you have restricted yourself to $150 buy the highest CCA rated battery that $150 will cover. BTW battery warrantees are not worth the paper they are written on no matter what brand. ohwell

Just about any modern battery that fits in the battery tray.......will be just fine as long as the charging system is in good working order.

The battery in the old truck is under very light load once it’s past cranking the engine compared to the modern vehicle with power everything.

Back in the old days one CCA ( cold cranking amp) per cubic engine displacement ( 235) was a sizing guide line.........it’s easy to find a 600-800 cold crank amp battery in the trucks tray size of about $100.

You don't say if you are running 12 volts or 6. If its 12 volts about anything 600 CCA or higher will work. 6 volt get the best highest amp you can find to fit the case. I get mine from Sams club. They are good & the price is right. If it goes bad in less then 3 years they will replace it even without the receipt.

I'm happy with WalMart's 12-volt Maxx Everstart Group 35 battery. 640 CCA. Under $100, I think.

I have been using Walmart batteries for years and have had good luck.
They will last around five years.
On vehicles that I don't drive very much, HF battery tenders work well for winter storage, such as lawn mowers or tractors.
Batteries seem to last longer. Tenders are about 7 bucks.

It doesn't make it law....... but a recent report by Consumer Reports indicates that the Wally-World battery is as good as you can get for your money. I have always like and ran the DieHard, which on sale, is a good price and longer guarantee's.
Still, I have two Wal-Mart batteries that are doing very well and the best part is if one goes bad you can now find a WalMart faster than a parts store! (Wal-Mart guarantee is shorter)

....still like my DieHards though!

Dad bought a Diehard Forever battery in about 1980. Guaranteed to last as long as you own the vehicle.
He got his money's worth and would get a new one free about every four years.
Drove that truck till at least the mid 90's.

I'm surprised you're happy with batteries that last only 5 years. I'm thinking more like 7 or 8. My original GM battery in my new van lasted 9.5 years.

Five years is not bad cause they are only fully guaranteed for three years.
Plus the wife works at Walmart and we get 10% off everything but food and drugs.
I replace them as soon as they start acting up. And then it is used as a spare in the shop.

My old Interstate MT-26R 12v battery was starting to sound kinda slow. It's CCA is rated at 540. I installed a Wally World EverStart with a 650 CCA rating and OMG!! Turns over way tooooo fast :-).

My '48 has not started only 4 times in 26 years. I was out of gas twice. The battery was shot twice in my 6-volt days but not now. I probably change batteries more often than I need now but it makes me feel good going into a winter where I'll be driving on below zero days.

Believe it or not, the original Motorcraft battery in my 2000 Ferd Ranger lasted until 2014. It was probably still good when I replaced it, as the real problem I was to learn a few days later was the alternator. But I ended up with a new battery and a new alternator. Oh well...

decided to buy a Exide Extreme from Home Depot

Exide Extreme 24F
800 CCA @ 0* F
960 CCA @ 32* F
40 month warranty
$99

seemed like a decent buy for the $$
