I'm told it is a 283 but I can't be sure. So my question is what do I look for on this motor to confirm it is a 283 and also determine what year it was manufactured?

Need those numbers.
Or better yet the casting number.
The casting number is located on the driver's side, top rear of the engine block. The number on the front passenger side of the engine block will NOT tell you the displacement of the engine block
