What carb? I'm doing a 2g at the moment. They are pretty easy, sounds like your fuel level is too high, (just guessing) could be sinking float or not adjusted correctly,needle damaged,bad gasket? Everything comes in the kit except a power valve. Its nice to have a sonic cleaner, but its not required. Its definitely DIY. There's usually a tag on one of the cover screws that tells you what carb it is, or if its missing hopefully its on the side of the float bowl. Otherwise you just have to match up parts by sight. Should be a number like mine which is 7011132 etc. Order a kit for the right carb, keep everything clean and just do it. Lots of youtubes on any carb you pick if you need them. Its nice to have a cookie baking sheet to disassemble it, take pictures as you go for reference. Parts will fall out at un-opportune times. One or two ball bearings inside, that most people get reversed, so just pay attention. If its a B I think those seeped when they were brand new. Careful adjustment of the float and drive it often will sometimes cure that.

I'm getting ready to tear my Roch B apart to see if I can fix the weeping (possibly float needle), stumbling on initial acceleration (possibly bad accelerator pump), and hard starting.
It is a Rochester B and is weeping at the float bowl gasket its the one you can see that is just below the fuel line connection and runs all around the carb. The truck runs well starts fast , it has a miss but I think that is tune up related, I just want to dry up the fuel

There's a chance of finding a Rochester B that doesn't leak, but it's also theoretically possible that somewhere out there is Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, or a unicorn.
The way to fix a leaky Rochester B is to make it a paperweight, and install a Carter carburetor. Jerry

I had two different Rochester B's rebuilt. Still leaked ECT. Bought a Carter at swap meet. Rebuilt it myself. Purrrerss like a kitten not one leak or issue. Just my 2 cents. Carter in, Rochester gone.
I vote for the Carter install LOL. Unless you are trying to keep it stock for show purposes. The average Joe would not know the difference between a carter in there or a Rochester.

Almost 50 years' worth of Carter parts lists and technical data were stored in the motorhome my grandson was living in- - - - -the one that burned last Saturday. No, they didn't survive the fire. They covered the time frame from the 1920's to the mid-1960's. Jerry

Several years ago, British Leyland was experimenting with different carbs and tried Holleys; they were rejected. Why? They ran great, but management determined that one pool under the engine was enough!

I rebuilt a Rochester B a few months ago. I was having trouble getting a Carter W-1 to idle properly (sometimes idling high, mostly stalling, hard starts). I plan to rebuild the Carter (I think the issues had something to do with ethanol) I took pictures and followed the filmstrip re-creation on Deve's site (courtesy of Brad Allen) There also is a link to Mike's Carburetors for a manual for the B. Once installed on my '47 1/2 ton with a 216, it ran way better - smooth acceleration and it idled at idle! Some good advice above. Take your time.
It's a small world, but I wouldn't want to paint it.
I also have a non leaking/weeping Roch B on my 49 216. I rebuilt it approx 4 yrs ago and so far it's performed very well. With that said I tried to setup dual B's on a freshly rebuilt 235 and both weeped and had other problems. And even tho they looked practically identical on the exterior, they differed on the interior, especially in the accelerator pump. I punted on them...
Per Jon and other folks that have extensive knowledge on these carbs that fit these Stovebolt engines, the upper and lower housings can warp, perhaps from mismatched halves or incorrect rebuilding techniques, but once they warp there's practically no easy fix for them. People have tried doubling up the gaskets and even used a sealer (not recommended) as fragments can clog up passages. Good luck
