I measured my pitman arm ball at .985" and then perpendicular at .957" with an out of round difference at .028". I am wondering if this will affect steering and should I put on a replacement ball? I am assuming originally they were 1" round.

You will have to overcome the spring pressure on the balls every time you turn. With a round ball, the spring pressure will be constant. If you do replace the ball and sockets, chuck the ball end in a drill, while spinning in the drill, apply lapping compound to the cups and lap them to the ball. It really helped mine. | | |
