I have a set of non-stock aluminum rims on my truck from when I bought it, along with some radial tires. The tires are shot, and the rims are trashed. The previous owner gave me a set of original rims, but a couple of them have some significant pitting on the inside. Since I need to get new tires, I want to go with tubed tires on the original rims. I’ve cleaned them up to remove the corrosion, but the inner surface is still rough in some areas. I’m concerned that it’s rough enough to chafe the tubes. Should I be concerned about the roughness, and if so is it possible to repair them, maybe with an epoxy filler? Thanks.
Cut a piece out of a big truck inner tube and stretch it over the rim so it's a snug fit in the drop center section. Bicycle rims used to have a band like that to prevent the spoke nuts from chafing inner tubes, on the ones I rode about 60 years ago, anyhow! Jerry

When one puts tube tires together, don't forget the liberal use of talcum powder, it solves a lot of problems, as well as inflating to peak pressure, then deflation to remove any wrinkles in the tube, then re-inflate.

40 years ago I installed new tires on my 1935 Chevy wire wheels and I made two passes of Duct Tape over the spokes to prevent tube chaffing and they are still holding air!
