My neighbor and I lifted it off the frame with relatively no problems. My neighbor is a perty small fella too.

Slide the column out the bottom. I put 2 lag screws in my joists and ran a cheap come along thru the door ways and ratcheted it up myself and rolled the chassis outside. 4 big guys will work too as long as no one trips stepping over the framerails.

This shows my hoist and also the trailer I used for working on my cab and taking parts to the paint shop. All pretty cheap, hoist all 4x4's and the trailer from a local boat yard, jet ski trailer I put boards on. THe hoist allows you to just take the steering wheel off and column shift off then just pull the frame out from under with the steering in tact. The hoist also came in handy for putting the cab back on after it was painted. A method that lets someone do it alone. I had all the parts just had to put it together. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 975 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 975 | Dbone,
This is probably not an "approved" method, but I put a bunch of 2X6's across the rafters in my garage to spread the load. My cab was stripped, doors, dash everything, so it was not heavy. I used a tow strap and a come-along and raised it above the frame and then wheeled the frame out from underneath. The box was already off so rear clearance was not a problem.
Again, I would stress that I would not put much more weight than I did on my rafters and did it close to the wall...I was able to do it myself and did not need the help of neighbors. My cab was rust free and strong..if yours is full of rust, again, I would be careful as to not bend/break what you have left. | | |
