There have been several threads lately concerning using rinoliner for covering parts. I must admit I was a skeptic until today. I saw a 52 with the inner fenders covered in this stuff and it really looked good. It also covers all those little dings and imperfections that can haunt us.

I have seen Rhino liner used inside of stock trailers to help with corrosion from animal manure. Also cleans up good with power washer. I've got it on my new pickup bed and really like it and its toughness. Things don't roll around as much in the bed either.

I recently saw a 50 3100 with the running boards rinolined and along with the custard yellow paint job this truck looked sharp.

Just make sure whatever you line you think about it first- it doesn't remove very well.

That's the reason I have not tried it yet. We just think grinding rust is difficult, can you guess what it would be like to remove that stuff? I want to see what it looks like in different applications and how well it holds up. I have seen it used under the hood and on areas that are not seen from the outside and I will probably use it there. I will wait until I see other applications.

Hard I like for running boards. Does this stuff go on over bare metal, primer, or finish paint ??

I plan on dropping by the Rinoliner dealer and see what I can learn about this stuff and what the cost would be. I'll fill everyone in when I know something. I am however a cronic procrastanator.

For what my two cents are worth: Bought an '04 Chevy used last August. I saw the Rhino-liner plate on the inside of the bed and thought that I had something good there--stuff would not be sliding all over the truck bed. Well, guess what? You can't keep concrete blocks from sliding in the bed of that truck. So I go to the local Rhino dealer to find out what's up with this c**p. News Flash---there are two levels of Rhino. What I've got is the "car dealer" liner---the stuff that they blow in there when the dealer tells you he's gonna sweeten the deal & give you a bed liner. This stuff dries hard and turns gray/black in short order. The good stuff is what you get when you buy it yourself. It goes on semi-hard, stays tacky so stuff doesn't slide all over the truck bed, but it too does not stay a dark black. I believe for running boards, I would stay with paint or powdercoat.

I've got Rhino liner in my 99, and it's still black and in very good shape. And I've carried all kinds of stuff in the back.

I like it !!!

No better smell than that of fresh paint. I've been building and painting cars/trucks for 47 years. Not gonna stop now.

I am thinking about using it to undercoat the insides of my front fenders when I replace them. Especially behind the wheels where they really take a beating.

There are a few products on the market for the do-it-yourselfer. I don't recall the names, off the top of my head, however I see ads for these products in some of my truck magazines. Also, check with your local auto parts store, because they carry some of these products. To answer your question, there are some products on the market and I believe they come in a rattle can.

Thanks Tony...I just finished my inner fenders and would like to get them covered. I was gonna spray some ZR on the inner fenders first then use Rino Liner or something comparable over top.

Is this a good idea? Just curious

Thanks,

I prefer 3M™ Underseal™ Rubberized Undercoating, #08883, fur fenderwells, or anywhere you want some scuff protection and a bit of sound dampening. It sticks a lot better than Herculiner or any of the other off-the-shelf bed liner materials, you can apply it to bare metal, and you can paint right over the top of it, and best of all it comes in a nice aerosol can. It looks more like factory undercoating, and lasts a nice long time. It cost me about $8 a can last time I bought it, and that's enough to do two fenders.

Sounds good...The 3M Rubberized undercoating you mentioned, would that also be concidered a rust preventer? If not, could I apply it over ZR?

Thanks,

Its a rust preventer about as much as paint can be a rust preventer. It will go over ZR just fine. Its made for new and repair undercoating. It holds up well to abrasion and salt spray.
