Just in time for the holidays! The enclave of East Coast Engine Pooh Bahs, Wizards, Potentates, Satraps and Viziers met over a series of weekends this Fall to perform and document a complete rebuild of a Chevrolet 261 engine. We have turned this into a fairly detailed Tech Tip on the 261 engine rebuild process. NOT as a replacement of, but an addition *to* the engine shop manual (which is included with the Tech Tip, by the way).
So, big thanks to the ODSS Engine crew and especially to Hotrod Lincoln (Jerry) and DJ! Editorial assistance provided by 3B, Wrenchbender, AmtrakJoe and 48BigTrucks. Grab some eggnog and your notebook, curl up next to the fire and enjoy our

Good job guys! Almost all those tips can be used on all engines.

This was a fun project. I learned a ton. Thanks again Jerry for sharing your wealth on knowledge.
Rest assured Tim, plenty of beer was consumed, after all the business was addressed!

Thanks to everyone involved for all the help and encouragement! Normally, I'd join in the fun and games after the tools are put away, but I was right in the middle of a 10-day antibiotic regimen for a sinus infection, and alcohol was off limits! John, how's the supply of "liquid grits" that I left with you during the homecoming holding out? After 50-something years of research, I've come to the conclusion that I can't do a good job of drinking or working, if I try to do both at the same time! Jerry

Thank you all for such great help and information. I like having a PRINTED BOOK handy when I am doing this kind of work - and I am new to this. I am not 100% certain of the Shop Manual to buy for my 1959 261 - is it the 1960 Truck Shop Manual? Many thanks!
Great job guys. Even a 235 rebuild can learn something from all the work you guys did. Is there an actual video of the initial run? I could not find it.
Here's Hotrod Lincoln starting the rebuilt 261 for the very first time. I think the man knows how to rebuild and tune an engine ...

I had the pleasure of seeing the Stovebolt flagship. Charlie fired right up. I have to admit that it was great to see Charlie whole again. Unfortunately the weather didn’t permit for driving.
I can’t wait for high speed escort recertification.
