I have been using high temperature (1200 degree) gloos black enamel for other black engine parts. Will this work on the starter and generator as well? In fact, that's what I used on my starter.

The starter and generator do make heat, and they don't have much in the way of cooling. A thin coat of radiator paint lets the heat get out and should make them last longer. What ever you use, make sure the paint is as thin as you can make it.
