Replaced the fuel pump two years ago and it leaked externally as soon as I installed it. Took it back for replacement and all went well. Until a couple of weeks ago. Appears that the fuel pump is leaking into the engine. Can anyone recommend a good pump? Airtex (Carquest) is the one I'm having issues with.

Rockauto.com has a Carter fuel pump listed for 1963 235.

I had problems wth two Airtex fuel pumps - they are now gone.

I concur with Mr. Tim's recommendation. My personal tally on the faulty Airtex 4149 pumps is three (3).
Two in one week. We never could determine "why" they would not pump, or seal.

Be careful- - - - -some of those "Carter" pumps are actually an Airtex pump in a Carter box!

Jerry is correct, as usual.
I did get one that was different (and, one that was the same as the Airtex).

Find an original at a swap meet.

Call "Then & Now Automotive" in Boston, and acquire a rebuilding kit.

Rebuild the original.

Forget about fuel pump problems.

Thanks, John. I think I will contact them for a spare rebuild kit.

Are the Airtex and Carter marked somehow? How to make sure the pump in a Carter box is not an Airtex?

Learned something new again! The thought of rebuilding a fuel pump would have never crossed my mind. I guess I'm too indoctrinated with the buy and replace mentality.

Thanks

Installed new Carter pump this morning. A few seconds of turning over and the 235 came to life. Thanks everyone. Great site!
