Who has them? I really like mine but am thinking of a trip out west this year and wonder if they work in the sparsely settled areas. Any Bolters from the Montana or Idaho have one? Thanks.

GPS doesn't care about population density. The signal comes from a satellite constellation in a geosynchronous orbit in space. it does require a more or less unobstructed path overhead to the sky. do not confuse this system with a cell-tower communication system which does have a dependency on population as towers are put where people are. Some phones use GPS info that has been retransmitted to the device via cell technology and gives the impression that there is such a dependency. A dedicated GPS speedometer will work fine.

I use an ap on my cel phone called Speedbox. Great to use to verify speeds on these old rigs.

Does the GPS speedos have odometers also?

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

The ones I'm looking at have an odometer and a speed warning. Some other stuff also but that is the limit on high tech for me.

I didn't realize that Speedbox has an odometer as well. Just reset it and will give it a try today.

My Garmin GPS has a MPH and "miles to destination" feature that works very accurately as long as some end point to a trip is programmed. I use it all the time, and rarely look down at the actual speedometer. Tire size, tire wear, and other variables don't affect it.

When I put the T5 transmission in, I bought a custom Speedhut GPS speedo with a GMC logo and mounted it in the stock location. Works like a charm and doesn't look bad. You can design the colors and backgrounds and add logos. I sent them an electronic file of a vintage GMC logo and they put it in the background.

I can attest to the Speedhut products. Very nice instruments that can be ordered in many sizes and styles.

One of the best features is as said they are built to your spec. Dial color , Pointer style & color, background lighting color, Bezel shape & color.
and the larger sizes can have your own type of logo on the dial. nice stuff!

The larger sizes have a inset digital display that can be adjusted to display with the main odometer a trip odo, track speed in a set distance,
Time ,Temp & compass heading. They can be ordered in Miles or Km./h All this for a fair price.

Just mount the unit, hook up battery power, switched and always hot and set the small antennae so it sees the sky.

And no I do not work for them just have one!

I forget the price - swing by their website and you can custom design whatever you want and get an immediate price.
