Thanks | | | | | Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 2,074 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 2,074 | I've seen a post on here that describes testing the entire circuit by manually raising and lowering the float and watching to see it the gauge move correctly. Other than that guess you can check it with an ohm meter to see that the circuit is complete. The first indicator for me is if the needle is in the home position just below the empty mark. Other broken gauges I've had the needle is way off.

Take sender wire off back of gauge. Use a piece of wire (I prefer alligator leads). Ground the gauge sender post, turn ignition switch to run. Needle will go empty or full. Turn ignition switch off. Remove wire from sender post. Leave all wires off sender post. Turn ignition switch to run. Needle will move to other end of gauge.
That checks gauge for operation. Check back in if you need further help. Good luck.
