I have a friend that has a 37 Chevy 1.5 T truck. It has the Split lock ring wheels and he wants to get rid of them and use a different type of wheel. The tire size is 6.50 by 20" and a 5 lug bolt pattern. What year of wheel and type from another truck will work on his truck? He will put new tires on also. 40chevypu.

You can put 19.5" tubless wheels on it off a late model P30 chassis. The lug pattern is 10 x 7.25". The front axle only uses 5 of the 10 studs, the rear uses all 10.

I would like to have a couple of his old wheels. Those should be 3-piece wheels. They are perfectly safe if they're in good shape. I have 6 that I restored and am using on my '50 1.5 ton, would like to have a spare or two.

You can find this chassis I speak of under an GM powered Class A motor home. The weeds are full of them.

mechanic58,
Thank you for the reply. Is there any year of Chevy truck that would have that type of wheel on it? If so, what year?
In your reply, you mention and have the word, tubless, I think that is what you had, do you mean tubeless tire? 40chevypu Marv

GM used 5/10 lug, 22.5 tubeless wheels when tubeless tires first came out in the mid to late '50's, so look on old farm trucks for these wheels, about 5.5" wide which will mount 9.00 or narrower x 22.5" tires.

Hello Ed,
Thank you for the info. That is what I was looking for, some years of old farm trucks that the wheels would fit his 37. Marv

The 10 lug on 7.25" bolt circle with a 5.25" center hole, 22.5" tubeless rims were only used on the 1956-59 Series 4000 Chevrolet (1-1/2 ton) trucks, the 2-ton had 6-lug rims...I don't know it GMC used them or not.

No, not on GMC. As noted In that year range GMC had 6 lug Budd even on the 1.5 ton.

This and many other wheel questions and answers lie in the sticky thread titled "wheels and tires, what to do" and in the Tech Tip linked in the thread. Relevant Tech Tips also found in big bolt section of main Tech Tip page, link at top of every SB forum page.

I mounted 1998 Chevy 3500 tubeless 19.5's on my'46 using a 1/4" spacer. The the lug pattern is identical but the hub piloted opening is 1/4" larger than the 40's models.
