Am I correct to assume that the dash is spot welded into the cab ?

One old post has a count of 54 spot welds, including welds around front windows?

The FAM does a good job of showing their location, drilling them is impossible. You cut the donor dash big and then grind them off individually (carefully). Removing the existing one from the truck is again best done with die/burr grinders. The pinch weld area is very thin and needs extra care going out and in.

Should it be noted that Brad's excellent photo is of a 54/55st dash panel, which most likely is "simpler" (fewer spot welds) compared to the two-pane-windshield in earlier trucks (like zoegrant's)?

Brad, what do you estimate would be the cost of that 54/55s dash? Is it a replacement panel, or is is a panel that had been removed from a truck?

It was one I removed from a parts truck a couple years ago. It is a bit simpler then the 47-53 version which I have also removed and sold 6-8 of over the years. It is a big job removing and replacing these (I tried to specialize on just removing).
Back when I was selling them they would go in the $150-200 range so cheaper then the repops (I have not seen one for the 54/55)? On the '54/55 the nature of the dash and repair difficulty people liked them whole. On the 47-53 most of the time I just removed this section. Easier, more cost effective to ship.

I bought and the quickly resold a really nice GMC once just because I was so offended and put off by this.

I saw this once and thought it was a great idea, one of the vendors should repop these.

I replaced the dash and the front cowl on my '52, and I will never do that again. It seems that GM started with a dash and welded the entire truck around it.
