I have a 1949 Chevy 3800 and I have an issue with gear lube leaking out the driver side of the axle hub. When the wheel is on the fluid runs down and behind the wheel. As of right now I have the wheel and drum off the driver side. I don't know if there is a seal on that side of the axle that is bad and I need to replace or what. If anyone has any ideas or information about this, that would be really helpful.

Yes. There is a seal in the hub. You need to pull the hub/drum off to replace it. Read up on pulling the hub. There has been plenty of talk on this website about it. Do a search. Find repair manual & read up. This is not for the faint of heart. If not done right severe damage to the axle & hub will result.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

Probably best to get a service manual.but in the meantime go on you tube and search out 1953 hub removal.just saw a video there that will show you what you need to do. Not too bad.

Good info, hopefully mine doesn't leak, was going to replace when swapping rear end but could not locate seal to fit my 51.

That's when mine started to leak. When I but a new ring and pinion set to make my truck go a bit quicker. And for me it's just the driver side. And thank you to all who have helped me this was really helpful!!

Best of luck!
