| | | | Joined: Jan 2015 Posts: 192 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2015 Posts: 192 | i have a 1962 235 hydraulic lifter engine that i bought last year from a guy who pulled it out of his 1958 Chevy car. i am planning on running it on a test stand. it came with a 12 volt generator and starter. it also has a Delco Remy coil. i dont know if there might have been a firewall mounted coil resistor on the guys car or if the coil has an internal resistor. i plan on running this engine on 12 volts, and i don't want to burn up the points. how can i tell whether or not to run a resistor to the coil? thanks | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,782 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,782 | If it's got an original equipment Delco coil you need a resistor. With the engine running you need to see around 10.5 volts at the coil + terminal when the charging system voltage is 14+. If you're running on a 12V battery without the charging system in operation the voltage at the coil needs to be around 9V.

Generator in place and spinning, but no wires running from it. Any recommendations on what or where for a resistor? I just bought three to wire in parallel to make a voltage regulator setting resistor, for about $4.00 apiece.
