Should the pressure plate have a ground surface? The one I received has a very rough surface with the tool marks from turning it very evident. You might have to adjust it a few times before the pedal height and free pedal stabilizes.

I am not sure how deep the grooves are 52Carl you can easily feel them with your finger for sure. I am going to put it together and move on.

Personally I would not use it. I'd take it back and get a different one,check it and make sure it has a better finish. It is normal to see the machining but it should be a finer cut. I would be concerned about premature disc wear because of the course and deep cut. It should at least be smooth enough that you can't catch a fingernail run across it. Doesn't have to be glassy smooth, but something that rough is going to wear a significant portion off the disk on break-in. JMO.
