The lights go out and the engine dies at the same time. The engine will start right after. I am tilted toward the P.O. wiring something wrong. Anyone come across this?

His only saving grace is that he listens to me when I talk to myself.

It sounds like a dead short somewhere downstream of the headlight switch that's dropping the system voltage enough to kill the ignition. Try turning the headlights on with the engine stopped, and see if they go dim or flicker on and off.

I could also make the engine die with a little harder tug. I found the ammeter nut was VERY loose. I tightened it down and hopefully squashed 1 more gremlin.
