Use an old toothbrush or something similar with the solvent to get every trace of oil off the case, or the epoxy won't stick.

I've had the truck for a couple of years and the PO had it stored in a garage for 23+ years, so the beating occurred at least 2 decades ago!

If the place you're trying to patch is on a vertical surface, you might have to build a small dam with masking tape to keep it from running down the side of the transmission while it cures.
