My original cab was badly rusted out. It has gone to the scrap yard. The 55 GMC firewall was perforated with lots of extra holes. I've relocated the bottom hood hinge bolt hole. I have pictures of the old firewall from the engine side, but nothing on the inside. By process of elimination, I've figured out which holes I need, which ones I need to add (horn relay), and which ones I can plug. I've checked my factory assembly manual, but it does NOT include a separate fuse panel.
So where is the fuse panel mounted for a 1958 Chevrolet?

I don't have the cardboard firewall insulation panel yet.
I can find the spot welded cable tab as per your picture for reference.
In your picture, it would appear that the mounting tab screws would come through the firewall just above the top outside voltage regulator bolt hole, just below the horn relay. Does that make sense ?
I found one hole, and the other hole is on the edge of a 3/4" hole. I'll have to file the big hole first, then drill the second tab hole.

| | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | don't recall exactly the mounting, but maybe weld nuts on the engine side of the firewall - the mount holes in the tab are only about an inch apart .... don't think position is critical unless you're picky about originality, which will be tough at any rate with the GMC-Chev conversion  Bill | | |
