That explains the hissing. I have no idea how to get parts for it, as the bellows are cracked and I need to disassemble it to clean and regrease it. Any ideas for what I have? Instead of a mechanical link to the 2 speed manual lever under the dash, they put a diaphragm on it to shift the gears.
So mechanically the same, should be plenty of info on the older units.
Pretty straight forward, disassemble, clean reassemble, seal and fill.
The diaphragm is the unique part for the older units. My dad also retro-fitted a vacuum advance diaphragm onto one for me.

It seems that with a little creative bracket adapting that would be an inexpensive alternative to a NOS part that might be dried out and unreliable. I have used thin rubber gasket material to make vacuum and air diaphragms, and even rebuild obsolete outboard motor fuel pumps.

I was into my parts stash the other day and found
a 55.2-59 speedometer housing with the gearbox attached
to the speedometer cable input. Is this what you need?
It is old and original, but has been out of the weather for 20 some years.
