I am putting a 350 v8 from a 72 c10 into my 56 3100. The fuel pump has a return line but the gas tank does not. What can I do with the return line from the pump?

Most would just block off the return line. I would plumb it back to the tank as far as I could and "T" it back into the fuel line coming from the tank. This will circulate fuel through the lines and hopefully help with any future vapor lock problems. Use a line smaller then the main line for your return line.

If you pull the sender out of the tank, you may find there is room to add a line. A drill and good solder iron would be about all you need tool wise to make it work. The silver ( in color ) fuel line solders really good due to the coating on it. If you go this way, make the line into the tank long enough to reach 1/2 way down into the tank.

So I could tee it back to the inlet line and be done? Not sure the sender has enough room to add another line. Really small.

Does the tank have a drain hole in that particular model?
If so you could access that for the feed line to the fuel pump (just like a 47-53 AD), and run the return line back through the line on the sending unit.

Just buy another pump that doesn't have the return line. We are only looking at two bolts and about 5 minutes of time.

no drain hole on the tank. Replacing the pump would be the best if I hadn't had to put a new one on to get the motor running before I put it in the truck.

Hey 56TN,
I would keep the installation clean.....put a pump that doesn't have the return ($25) install it and don't worry about it every again.
my 2 cents,
Bill
