The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Fiberglass fender?

Anyone using fiberglass front or rear fenders on a 41' - 46' . See a one piece front clip that is cool looking for a street rod build. It sure is pricey.I have some useable front fenders but they will take some metal work.

Your question and your handle seem at odds to each other.
You have metal fenders your name is metal shaper your asking about fiberglass.

I hear what your saying. I think I am getting lazy as I get older.lol. I worked metal for a lot of years,so that's why I chose the handle. I am now doing millwright work ,and don't have the access to the tools,like I use to, so what metal work I do now is old school all by hand. I guess I am spoiled after being able to have the best tooling available.. I liked the one piece front clip I saw. Inner and outer fenders tide together across the front.also had the headlights made in the fenders like the early fords. I am thinking about cutting the head light buckets and welding the in the fenders I have for a custom look or getting a set of headlight buckets from a 37' - 39' ford and custom fit them to get the look I want. Or I could sell the fenders and headlight buckets I have ( I have 4,and the buckets I have are complete with the running light on top and perfect condition ) and buy the one piece front clip. It's all the same in the end,but the one piece clip is sand and paint. I do not have any rear fenders and am thinking fiberglass will be my best option. I am not not trying to build my truck to be original as I once was. I am now going for a street rod look.

I hear the 'time and tool' reasoning and can find no reason not to go that way.
And like you say, you have lots of trade/sell items you won't have to spend more time on...

To top it off,my TIG welder stopped working and I had to send it off for repair. I am not sure when I will get it back. That's not really holding me up at this point of the build. Sand and paint sure is looking good.

Blue has 2" wider fiberglass rear fenders - fit is good from start - and steel big truck front fenders - much welding and body work..

Red/black has fiberglass front fenders - takes some time to fit up with an aftermarket grill with massaging - and will have fiberglass rear with 9" added in -- will be a long stepside bed.

Thanks for he pics.and info. Blue is very close to the color I have on my 46'. I am not sure what I am going to do right now. I talked to the manufacturer of the one piece front clip. It sounds like it is best to cut it in the middle and work both side to fit,then fiberglass it back together. I will probably just work with the steel fenders I have.

I know my 37 fenders are not like the 40's but for what its worth I've been running front, rear fenders and fiberglass ribbed running boards and at high speeds. No problem since 1999.
