Was wondering what the best manual, vintage or newer, would be for someone who took a truck apart 20 plus years ago and is now getting around to restoring and putting pieces back together. Its a rust bucket so will be more of a resto-mod than a faithful restoration.

I like to use a factory shop manual and a Motors Truck Repair Manual for mechanical stuff. Compare the procedure in each then decide how is best for you to do it.

If the '38 is anything like the '37, it won't help much on assembly. There is some basic wiring, brake, transmission, and engine information. The old truck is pretty basic and not all that hard to figure out. I pulled mine from a fence row 35 years after it was parked and was able to put it together without ever see a truck before this one.
