Hi there 60-66 truck guys and gals is there any gals on here

Just wanted to share a story about the brand new 65 Chevy truck I bought .. it had a 238 V8 = 175 hp engine ,,big back window ,short box fleet side custom grille and 3 on the tree.. and Posi traction.. light blue .

First of all ..I worked in a sawmill and the first day I drove in to work I had a lot tire kickers and some admirer's.. more liked it than not ,,especialy the younger guys. A couple guys told me I should of bought a truck not a pretty car.. It didnt bother me ,,just figured they were old and didnt like change,, now I am old and understand them much better.. lol

Then came my brother who wanted to borrow it and move a washer and dryer.. So , before he took it i told him how he had to push the gas peddle down at the same time he pushed the choke in .. and if he didn't it would bend the choke wire... He didnt listen and when he brought it back he says to me ,,what a bad deal I got on a new truck ,,and I should take it in and get it tuned right..

What he did was pull the choke to to start it and then he didnt push the gas peddle when pushing the choke back in after the motor warmed up ..Then he had some guy fiddle with my carburator trying to get it where it wasn't being choked to death and so that's the way he brought it back to me ..

I share this story because I did buy it brand new and with the manual choke and when I talk to guys at car shows ,hardly any of them know about this choke problem because they have new motors or anyways ones with automatic Chokes,,
Sorry if this is long and beings I do not own a 60-66 I may be out of place on here.. just let me know, I am new on here.. LD 39Chevy smile

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile

Achipmunk ..them words are some good ones to live by,,,and Hambone thx for the welcome ,,

One more thing about the 65 pickup I bought is that the 283 engine that came from straight from the factory had a two barrel carb with 175 horse power .. I believe the two barrel carbs in the cars were 195 horse and if it were a 4 barrel is was 220 horse.. this is from memory ,,could be wrong but not thinking so as I write it ..

Any average millennial would take 20 minutes just to get out of the driveway if they tried to steal my truck. It would be amusing to watch one try. God help them if it's a 3 on the tree setup. :)

Both my 18 and 14 year old sons can drive a 3 speed on the column, in fact the 14 year hopped in the 66 to move it and his buddy that was with him asked him what that 3rd pedal was. He replied the clutch, then came the next natural question what is that little middle button to the left of it.

I taught my daughter to drive in my '62. 327 with the SM420 4-speed and a manual choke. She does pretty good for a 23 year old.

My wife on the other hand..... Her first car was an 80-something Chevy Chevette with a 4 banger and a 4 speed with an autochoke.
She has all kinds of trouble with the '62. The choke completely confuses her and granny low, what's that?? Why won't the truck go any faster in first, and where is reverse? Why isn't the pattern on the shift knob?

I have a PostIt note with the shift pattern that I put on the dash when I know she is going to be driving it. I try to make sure she never needs to drive it though. :-)
