Disc brakes and power steering capabilities are important. Also the ability to utilize my stock six lug wheels. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2013 Posts: 160 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2013 Posts: 160 | Why the Grand Marquis subject line? That's not keeping your stock 6lug. It all starts with your budget. Start here with forum searching and vendor catalogs for your options. Then it be becomes limited by your skills, tools, work area, etc | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | If you go with a disc brake set up the odds are that you will have 5 lugs (depending on what you buy)
If you want 6 lug then you'll need a disc kit for 6 lug and you'll have to re-drill the axle holes in the Marque.
...and lastly, be sure ALL the lug patterns are the same on the front and rear so you do not have to have two sets of wheels for a spare! Research...research, research... | | | | | Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 331 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 331 | The FoMoCo Panther body chassis has a very wide track. If you use one of those IFS setups with a typical offset wheel your tires are going to stick out past the fenders and your rear track will be significantly narrower than the front. I wouldn't really recommend it. I have seen guys take the entire rolling frame from a Panther car and shorten it and modify it to fit under various model older pickups and it works great, but there again you're limited on your wheel selection if you want it look right.
1950 4100 - unrestored and driven weekly for almost no reason at all.

I would really like to keep the look and take advantage of a good comfortable and safe ride. I started out as a diehard "all stock" rebuild. You know bench seat with fuel tank behind the front seat etc.. I have seen too many upgrades that I am leaning in another direction. I guess holding on to my stock six lug wheels is my last chane to keep a look I realy want to perserve. Yes more research for sure. All the advice is appreciated. | | |
