Just one question guys. Does it, or does it not, hold the line/pipe in place or do you have to allow for "slippage".

...before investing $$$, and after talking to a few people there seems to be an "opinion" by some that there isn't many that don't let it slip some....except when new.

Don't want to open a keg of worms here just ONE OR TWO honest opinions from those who have used their flaring tool quite a bit.
Thanks.

The Brakequip one I have, which looks like same manufacturer as the Eastwood... does not slip at all, even on stainless.

Alvin,
I own the Eastwood version. Fabulous. Money well spent. Perfect flare in seconds. No regrets but I now see how handy a portable hydraulic flare tool would be. So, I'd rather have the portable hydraulic version.

You are welcome to borrow mine any time. I'll email you some photos later.

Thanks everyone. Santa may bring me one? I don't expect to be doing a lot of flaring the rest of my days but hey, I could loan it to my friends.......Jay if I'm in the area soon I may drop in but I'd give you a call.

Sounds like a great tool...but well outside my budget!

Can any of you recommend a good flaring tool to do inverted flares on copper & steel (not stainless) tubing that will last me through at least 2 cars and won't break the bank?

Thanks

When this thread first started the sale price was either 167 or 187. I had intended to get one but had to do all ball joints/bushings/ and now maybe rack and pinion on my 312K Silverado.
Now they show for 199 but I think the regular price is 269.

I'll have to catch the next sale! I may never need it but I'll have it....maybe rent it out? LOL

Having used the newfangled kind it's real hard to recommend anything less...

I previously used an Imperial that was OK, and an imported OTC brand that was less than OK.

I picked a double flare kit at my FLAPS for about $20 and have used it a couple of times. Similar to the one that Griggs linked to. I think it's MIC (Made in China), but works respectably well. I used it on some 3/8" steel tranny cooler lines with good results.

They had the same thing as a loaner (deposit the sale price and refunded on return) but I decided to buy instead. You could try the loaner approach and see how you like it at no charge.
