I'm not restoring my '46 1/2 ton, just fixing it up. But I'd like to fix it original and I can't find out the color for the valve cover. Was it blue or black or what? And what kind of cap did it have on the valve cover for the oil? Mine has one that probably used to have steel wool in it, but now the steel wool is gone and it spits oil back out and gets the valve cover dirty. Any suggestions on how to fix that?
What color were the wheels? I'd guess black with some color stripes. Sure do need help.

The wheels on the 41-46's were either black or the same color as the body and had pin stripping on them. The 216 motor was gray, top to bottom. The valve cover cap is just a non breathable twist on cap with no vent in it.

There is an engine enamel from Plasti-coat called New Ford Gray #216 in the tall rattle can that matches pretty close. If you just want to spruce up your engine a little, that should work.

I finally get to use my quart of actual spray on engine paint now that my 216 is out of the truck.

Thanks for all the good info. Tim, I know now why I'm just fixin it up instead of restoring it. Man, I drive it to work every day!

One more question. What color should the pin stripes be on black wheels, white? creme?
