The code stamped on the pass. side of the block is V0701HV. any info? It also has 416 heads on it.

The telltale sign is the journal size. The first year of large journal 327 is 1968, therefore, if the journal is small, then it's probably a 327 and if the journal is large, then you have a 350. The 327 would be a 350hp 327 and the 350 would be rated at 255hp. If you had the original cam and it was a 327, that cam would be a little radical, with almost 0.450 lift and would sound much different than a 255hp 350. What is the casting number on the back of the block?

| | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 77 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2006 Posts: 77 | The 1968 & 1969 Z/28 302 will have a suffix code of DZ (one of Chevrolet's most recognized suffix codes, belonging the the large journal high winding 302), both the 68 & 69 327 will be large journal. Since the HV suffix code matches 350 and the casting code resembles a match to the 350 (250 hp), you probably have 350. Don't know if it's 2 or 4 bolt main, but IMHO, the 2 bolt main engine is preferred for building a performance engine, as it is much easier to drill the 2 bolt main block for use with nodular iron 4 bolt main splayed main caps (GM part number 14011072) and the block webbing of the 2 bolt main block are beefier than its 4 bolt main counterpart.
