Does anyone have any tricks of the trade in sealing up or fitting the crank out windshields on the 41-46 trucks? I just cleaned mine up, cleaned out all the previous good ideas and replaced the outer gasket. It still doesn't seal at the bottom corners.

had the same problem on my 46, even after I tweaked the winshield frame a bit [helped, but no cigar] - I've never seen one that closed so there was no leak at those outside corners, and that's prolly a good part of the reason they quit makin crank out windshields!

I siliconed it, closed it tight, and never opened it again grin

My 46 has a drain hole on either side.I think that they are brass. Make sure that the rubber tube that is attacched to these are not pluged. Mine doesn't leak a drop

Last winter I siliconed the thing shut too. I also cleaned the drain holes. I have to get the crank rebuilt so I got creative with some rope to hold it closed. I expect some improvement with the gap at the corners when I get that done. I suspect when the rain turns to snow that a little less moisture will make it through.

Right now I am thinking that the hinges and the amount of an angle on the windshield need to be tweaked hinges closer together, greater angle.

Thanks for the responses.
Mike

I found on my 37 that the only seal I ever bought worked better than the one that was in there before I installed the new one. I bought it from Steele Rubber Company and after looking at tons of others seals on various other trucks, the Steele Rubber Company windshield rubber is the only one that really seems to work. It's been on my truck for 20 years and has no cracks and looks new and seals tight.

I still get some water between the glass and the frame.

I think I got mine from Chev' of the 40's, When I finally get to tht efinal body work I may try one from Steele. I probably didn't know about them when I picked this one up.

Thanks

Mike

I bought three different seals and had the same luck, lower corners not shutting. I went with Steele Rubber for the fourth one and it worked like a champ! Its a different design and grade of rubber. Spend the extra and get a USA made part' you be glade you did. Joe

Hey 6cyl. glad to see you are still kicking!!hehe
I have the same problem. I simply hate the cussed thing when I try to close it tight. After reading you guys experience I think I to will try a Steele Rubber gasket. Darn, and to think they are only about 40 miles from me. I just may drive up there and take a look. (Gosh, afer 10 months its good to be back home in dear old S.C.) whew
