Back in 95 you could still find them in junk yards. I used one from a 1978 which had the V8 engine because the front springs on it are a little heavier duty. If you can't find one there are vendors who offer the Stang II kit although it'll cost more.
If you find one in the junk yard be sure to get the Master Cylinder/booster and also the rack and pinion. You'll need them for "cores" when you get new or rebuilt ones. Back in "my day" I got all of the stuff for $75 and rebuilt the A-arm bushing and stuff. Another note....if using the mustang calipers be aware the rotors are smaller than GM. I have the smaller rotors on my hot rod 37 and they do a pretty good job BUT if I had it to do over again I'd have gone with the bigger GM rotors/calibers. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2016 Posts: 10 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2016 Posts: 10 | Thanks, I'm off to the junk yard how can I tell which cars have the mustang 2 front ends | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 7,441 Bolter | | Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 7,441 | They will have Mustang II on the front fender. Made by Ferd Motor Company. Not the full size Mustang but the smaller version. No other cars will have a Mustang II front suspension. Many other cars have rack and pinion. Ask the counter guy at the yard for help.

The Pinto was made from 1971-1980 and had THE EXACT SAME front end except a bit better design on the strut rods. The Mercury Bobcat was just a jazzed up Pinto. We put dozens of Pinto IFS units in but once installed they would magically become "Mustang II". I NEVER see a Pinto front for sale at a swap meet but have noticed that on most of the MII units for sale some dirty dog has put Pinto struts on them.

Wondering if I should just try to use the stock front end. Most of the parts art there | | | | | Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 36 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 36 | The stock front end is not an easy to remove/install piece. I have built a lot of cars using the MII front and by the time you are finished getting the stock crossmember in the truck and reinforcing it you will wish you had just bought a new one for $450 that was made for your frame. The only parts I normally use from a stock setup is the spindles. Everything else I buy new. If you do happen across a front end in the yard, by the time you rebuild/replace all the worn out pieces you could have just gotten everything new and not work as hard. | | |
