I know there is a satin black but is there a satin red? I want to paint my 64 chevy truck. I want something like a satin black. I was thinkin satin black but i then thought if there is a satin red that would be cool. I dont want any of the original colors for the 64. So if i could find a color that is flat like the satin black and then put the two toned like satin red and then the white on the upper part of the cab. Any help would be cool. THank you

How about blue satin? You could call if "blue suede". Red trucks are a dime a dozen.

you can flatten [satin] any color - you can also get epoxy primer tinted - I like the blue suede idea

ok so i love primer. I am a sucker for primer!! YOu ask why i like primer? Well it gives it that old skool look. I want to give it that rusty satin red primer look. YOU know wat i mean? But with like a flat white top. So two toned is wat i mean. Do you guys think that would be cool? Ima do it either way. Just want to know if primer last as long a regular paint. Is satin the same as primer? Will satin last for awhile? I dont know i need help. I am taking my truck on monday to get body work done to it.

Just got my 4t6 cab back from blasters yesterday and today I painted with rusty red primer and after two years of being apart things finally seem like they are coming together. I still have a lot of body work but that is what long New York winters are for. Just got garage clean enough to move 4t6 back in. I like the flat look also

Sounds cool...I like the satin red color idea. Do what you like cuz you'll look at it every day. Red trucks may be a dime a dozen, but mine's red because I like it. And nothing catches the eye going down the street like a red truck (or maybe a yellow truck!). So do what you like, and forget about everything else. I like glossy...but if you like it satin, you do it.

you know i also thought blue was better than red. But for some reason a red,blue,yellow,green,watever the color may be always looks GREAT on a stovebolt. ..... Great looking truck there shipwright.

That is a beautiful truck! What color red is that? Do you have a paint code? I'd love to see my firetruck in that color red.

Thanks ya'll. Don't know the color code. It was this color when I found it. I just shined it up and put a whole new drivetrain & dress up parts on it. It needs a repaint, but that's more $$ than I have right now. Gonna wait till I gather up enough funds to do it right. I like the color too. When I repaint gonna go w/ same color. Prolly paint the interior the original chanpagne color though. (little too much red)

Shipwright I do like that color. It sure sets off the chrome, or the chrome sure sets off the red.

I don't know what all colors you use in the cab other than the red, but I think that a light tan would look good on the dash. It would have to chosen precisely or it would look terrible. Perhaps tan isn't the proper color term, kind of like unfinished leather color. If you do a Google search for "color chart tan" The resulting first hit is RGB color chart. The first tan on the chart is like the one I'm thinking of.

Such a color would be considered a neutral color and would go with a number of colors. However I don't think it would look good if you had much black showing, such as a black headliner, black steering wheel, etc.

Just a thought. Maybe I'll try it on a driver and see what it looks like.

is oxide red primer the same as epoxy red primer?

red oxide is basicly an enamel, and while it's a coating that can take some abuse, it won't stand up well for long - epoxy is .... epoxy - fairly bullet proof, comes kinda gray or tan, can be tinted any color - if it's gonna be yer 'topcoat', epoxy primer is what you want

Dupont sells an epoxy primer in red oxide.That is what i am using. To be honest it looks more like dark brown.

Just a thought, epoxy is the way to go if you want a flat look,but it ain't to satin looking.like red58 mentioned earlier,you can flatten any color,and adjust the gloss by how much flattener you add.sounds like you are looking for an eggshell finish.the flat scale goes like this flat-eggshell-semigloss-gloss

well my truck is in the shop right and getting the body straightend out and will be two toned by friday there. They will paint the top half of my 64 gloss white and the rest the epoxy red primer and ima call it finished.

If you want it to last a long time I would paint it with a base/clear and use a flat clearcoat. That way it won't rust through the primer and if you decide you want it shiny you can just buff the clear and spray gloss over it.

so i got my truck back from the body shop. I got wat i paid for and it came out good. The body is looking good on my 64 now. The upper half of the cab is white and the rest of the body is supposely red oxide primer. Looks more like an orange primer though. But all in all it looks good. I am thinkin twice about leaving it primer. I mean sooner or later it will rust through like you all said. So i think in about a year when i know ill have cash then i will get it a real paint job. well thankyou all for your help and talk to you all later.
