On a 49 3100, are the front parking lights the same as turn signals? My truck has neither.

On an original truck they will be parking lights. Unless a previous owner has added a turn signal kit they did not originally come with your truck. Those kits back in the day usually included or were used with something like this.

There was a wide variety of aftermarket versions available and accessory Guide models that could be used. I chose to eliminate these and bought sockets for my original parking lamps to convert them to turn signals.

I buy most of my 12v stuff from Del City wire. Been buying from them for years. Here is one similar but about half the price.

I made mine both. I put in yellow LEDs for turn and white LEDs for park.

Yep. How I added the dual contact socket for turn signals on my truck. Clear lens and yellow bulbs. 1157 lights and all was good.

I am installing the two contact lights from classic parts, does it matter which wire I use for parking or turn signal?

I could be wrong, but take a close look at the bulb. I think the filaments are different. One is thicker than the other one. If so, I think the thicker one is your turn signal.

The 1949 Chev truck wiring diagrams shows stop (white) and tail (black) and both 16 gauge wire.

The bulb goes in one way.

Maybe someone know which filament is the larger/brighter?

On the rear, those two filaments served as parking/marker/driving and brake light. I forget which one was used for turn signal.

The brake and turn are the same filament.

That would depend on what type of signal switch is used.
