My 215-85-16 won't fit on the side mount of my 53. I found a 195-80-16 is about the same as the orig 600-16 in diameter. I'm not sure if it will fit as far as width on the side mount. Anyone have a side mount with a wider than 600-16 tire. | | | | Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,059 Renaissance Man | Renaissance Man Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,059 | I just use a 600-16 tire for my side mount spare. It is a vintage Good Year bias ply tire. It holds air and looks cool, and will work just fine should I have a flat. Carl

How about putting the wheel on backwards?
Or putting on longer studs? Jeffrey

Just a little smaller than the original and i'll mount it on the original rim then put a tire cover on it. Nobody will ever know and it should work. I'll let you know. | | | | Joined: Dec 2011 Posts: 264 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2011 Posts: 264 | Got my 155-90-16 tire mounted on the rim today and put on the side of the truck. Its about an inch smaller in diameter than the factory tire. It should work in an emergency. Looks fine. | | | | Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 28 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 28 | I took a Harley-Davidson branded whitewall, size MT90/16, mounted it on an artillary wheel and used it on my 54 GMC sidemount. Looks great and I'm sure it will do for a spare.
