The time has come to by a spare tire. My 215-85-16 won't fit on the side mount of my 53. I found a 195-80-16 is about the same as the orig 600-16 in diameter. I'm not sure if it will fit as far as width on the side mount. Anyone have a side mount with a wider than 600-16 tire.

I just use a 600-16 tire for my side mount spare. It is a vintage Good Year bias ply tire. It holds air and looks cool, and will work just fine should I have a flat.

Studs to short?

How about putting the wheel on backwards?

Or putting on longer studs?

Well, I'm going to try something different. I bought a 155-90-16 doughnut tire today. Just a little smaller than the original and i'll mount it on the original rim then put a tire cover on it. Nobody will ever know and it should work. I'll let you know.

Got my 155-90-16 tire mounted on the rim today and put on the side of the truck. Its about an inch smaller in diameter than the factory tire. It should work in an emergency. Looks fine.

I took a Harley-Davidson branded whitewall, size MT90/16, mounted it on an artillary wheel and used it on my 54 GMC sidemount. Looks great and I'm sure it will do for a spare.

My spare is a can of Fix-A-Flat. If that fails my backup is the Roadside Assistance package on my car insurance.

You could pick up some 6 lug spacers and with longer studs could mount just about any wheel. Best of luck
