You could hack through the cardboard behind it and get to the lock from under the dash, or just get creative with some spring steel or an old credit card and spring the lock from the crack between the door and the dash.

If you use the right size drill bit, you'll only screw up the lock. Your going to need another one anyway. Cecil.........

DON'T DRILL THE LOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You won't accomplish anything by drilling the lock and the first thing you know, you'll be drilling and the drill will slip and you'll mess up the glove box door. Then you'll have to look for another lock - with a key - and I suggest that won't be any easier than trying this. Find a good - I said GOOD - locksmith! He should be able to open the glove box. And it wouldn't hurt if he was about 68-70 years old. He'll know what to do! Once its open, he should be able to key it to match another key or the ignition key.

Just my thoughts on the subject! I went through the same thing.

Any half-awake locksmith should be able to fix that problem in about 30 seconds.

Come on you guys. How much is going to cost to get a locksmith? New lock and key is about $30.
Still say use a small drill bit. Cecil.........

They weren't stuck in the car, but I had two door lock buttons re-keyed and a couple of keys made for about $20.

The lock on the glovebox is not a vary secure item. If you get a small screwdriver and slide it all the way in and slowly back out feeling the tumblers and turn at the same time you should be able to unlock it yourself. After that you can replace the lock or take it in to a locksmith and have a new key mad.

I don't have a key for mine either. I use the 6" flexable ruler I keep in my pocket to open it. I can do it in the dark with my eyes closed in about a second or less. Just slip it in the crack centered above the lock and the door drops open.

Or, like said before, poke a hole in the cardboard and rech inside and unlatch it. what does new cardboard cost? And is yours any good to start with?

Drill it! Get it over with. You were replacing the lock anyway. Just drill straight, and don't overdose on caffine beforehand.

Why replace the lock? It's probably cheaper to have a decent locksmith make a new key.

on the bottom of the glove box door there are four phillips screws that mount the hinge to the dash, this holds the glove box in place, remove these, and the door should pull down.then remove your lock from the inside and get it coded!

Seems all I have to do is slam my fist hard on the dash and the glove box pops open... smile Some adjustment required here.

Make sure that the mechanism isn't just frozen. Your ignition key SHOULD work. Always try WD-40 first. lol...

jim carter has a new lock and key for $25.00 plus shipping. unless you can find a locksmith and new cardboard glove compartment for less, go with the lock guy.

careful with your ingnition key. i used a spare key on the glovebox lock once and couldn't get it back out. took me about a half hour to convince it to come out. if you only have one key, have a dupe made first before you commit it to the glove box.
